Stay at Island Island!

Drawing inspiration from Henry David Thoreau's Walden , our proposal is for the Power Street Loop to be established as a residency and retreat for personal reflection and creative practice – not purely for artists, but for curators, poets, performers, philosophers, thinkers, makers, dreamers and doers.

Islands occupy a central place in our history and collective consciousness, representing paradise lost and found, freedom and detention, holidays and hard work, security and isolation. Turning the Power Street Loop into a residency for artists will also addresses broader issues around our history as an island nation.

An essential aspect of the proposal is Landcare Australia's successful restoration of the site to its natural bush state. A series of raised architecturally designed studios will be located within this unique piece of ‘bush in the city’, offering residents a place for reflection amidst the flow of traffic and the hum of the city.
