Pitching the Ponds

Moonee Ponds, Melbourne

Status: Completed

Photography by Tatjana Plitt

Rear addition to a house in Moonee Ponds.

Working with the many pitched roof forms of the existing Edwardian house, the extension extends the existing roof and creates new gables that extend all the way to the back of the property. These pitched roofs form new upper facades, western screens, and a studio loft space.

Working closely with the Engineer client, these forms are articulated as a series of strong steel portals that march along the length of the backyard. The extension maximises northern light and views to the existing large peppercorn tree and surrounding garden.
