Flinders Street Station Competition

Melbourne City

A submission for the International competition for the redevelopment of Flinders Street Station. The submission was done in collaboration with Katherine Sampson, Deborah Rowe and Nurulhuda Sedek

The proposal was a heritage and landscape strategy. An approach of restoration and reconstruction applied to built form, urban fabric, program and landscape. An approach of strengthening connections through the preservation of important existing features, structure and relationships. And, ultimately, conservation by reinstating the station as an important amenity to the public where the station’s civic role is enhanced through greater levels of public access and engagement. The proposal aims to straddle the past and the present as a way of creating a stronger connection to place and establishes Flinders Street station as a destination as well as an important intermodal hub.
